Mary visited Elizabeth after hearing from Archangel Gabriel

In today’s story, Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth after hearing from Archangel Gabriel.

This is a follow up from last week’s story in which we learnt how The Word came into the world.

In that story, Archangel Gabriel descended from Heaven and visited Virgin Mary. He told here that she would be the mother of the Son of God.

Gabriel the Archangel also told Mary that her cousin Elizabeth was pregnant with a child.

Mary visited Elizabeth to verify the news given by Archangel Gabriel

Mary became excited after hearing that she would become the mother of the Son of God and that Elizabeth was also pregnant.

Virgin Mary decided to visit her cousin to verify the news. Elizabeth her cousin lived in a hillly area in a town of Judah.

Mary went to her cousin Elizabeth’s house and greeted her. On hearing Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s unborn baby leaped in her womb.

This is how we know that babies can hear in their Mommy’s tummies. If your Mommy is carrying a baby, I want you to talk to your baby sister or brother every day.

Tell the baby how much you love him or her.

Sing to baby and tell stories.

When baby is born, he or she will recognize you and love you more.

Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied

Elizabeth also became very happy when Mary greeted her. The Holy Spirit of God filled her and she began to prophesy:

‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child in your womb!”

Elizabeth prophesied and told Mary that she was the mother of the Lord. She said too that her baby leaped in her womb when he heard the greeting.

Elizabeth told Mary that she would be blessed if she believed that Word that God had spoken to her.

To prophesy means to let God fill your mouth with words to say, Elizabeth was prophesying because no one had told her that Mary was now the mother of the Son of God.

Mary replied to Elizabeth’s greeting

Mary’s spirit became filled with joy. She responded and began to speak the scriptures.

She said that she was ovejoyed that God had chosen her to be the mommy of the Son of God.

Mary said that God had regarded her in her lowly state and that future generations would call her blessed.

Mary stayed with Elizabeth about three months, then returned to her home.

Mary visited Elizabeth bible verses

39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah,

40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.

41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,

42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!

43 And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.

45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”

46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord,

47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,

48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;

49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.

50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.

51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts;

52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate;

53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.

54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy,

55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”

56 And Mary remained with her about three months and returned to her home.
