John baptized bible story

In today’s bible story, we’ll learn how John baptized .

John was a preacher. He lived in Israel in ’ time and was the Lord’s cousin.

He was also called John the Baptist, because he baptized people. John preached and warned the people to repent of their sins.

To repent means to confess bad things to God and to stop doing them.

That is what the people were doing. They listened to John and confessed their sins to God in order to receive forgiveness.

John was also baptizing the people who repented. To baptize means to dip or immerse in water.

Water cannot wash away sins. However, John baptized the people who repented or turned back from doing sins to show that God had washed away their sins.

Why did ask John to baptize Him?

came from Galilee to John to be baptised by him in the Jordan River.

John knew that Jesus was the Son of God and that He was not a sinner. He wondered why Jesus needed to be baptized.

John tried to stop Jesus. He said,

‘I need to be baptised by you, and yet you want me to baptize you?’

Jesus knew that He was the Son of God. He was not a sinner.

However, He wanted to show those who would later repent of their sins, that baptism pleased God.

Jesus replied,

‘Let it happen now, for it is right for us to fulfill all righteousness.”

Then .

The Spirit of God descended on Christ

After Jesus was baptised, He came up out of the water. As the Lord did so, the heavens opened.

Jesus and John saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on the Lord.

Jesus’ Heavenly Father was so pleased with His example, that He opened up the heavens and paid them a visit.

A voice from heaven said,

‘This is my one dear Son; in Him I take great delight.’

In the same way, God becomes pleased with all those who turn away from doing sins.

He is also pleased when they follow Jesus’ example and are baptized as a sign that God has forgiven and washed away their sins.
