Jesus is transfigured bible story
He took three disciples with him. They were Peter, John, and James.
Jesus loved to pray because prayer kept Him close to His Heavenly Father.
The Lord also loved to pray in mountains because they were peaceful and quiet. No one was there to disturb His prayer time.
Jesus was transfigured or changed as He prayed
As Jesus prayed, He was transfigured.
Transfigured means that He was changed or transformed.
The appearance of Christ’s face was transformed.
His face became as bright as the sun. ‘
It blazed brightly.
Jesus’ clothes also changed into a very bright, brilliant white color.
Can you imagine how amazed His disciples were?
Moses and Elijah appeared to Jesus
Then another amazing event took place.
Moses and Elijah, appeared and began talking
with Jesus. They had been living in Heaven for hundreds of years.
They were also shining with bright light.
When they appeared, they had a conversation with Jesus.
The three disciples heard them speaking about His trial and crucifixion that He was about to carry out in Jerusalem.
The disciples became overcome with sleep
All of this light was so brilliant that the disciples had fallen asleep.
They awoke in time to see Moses and Elijah and to hear the conversation.
Peter wanted to build three temples
As Jesus and His disciples got ready to leave, Peter said to Jesus,
‘Lord, it is good for us to be here. Let us make three temples, one for you and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’
Peter really did not know what he was saying. Jesus had shown them the vision to alert them about His death, burial, and resurrection.
He did not want temples!
A cloud overshadowed Jesus and His disciples
As Peter said this, a cloud overshadowed them. They were afraid as they entered the cloud.
A voice came from the cloud, and said,
‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!’
After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. Everyone else had returned to Heaven
Jesus told the disciple to keep quiet
And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded His diciples to keep quiet about the vision:
“Don’t tell the vision to anyone until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”
What are 3 lessons to learn from Jesus’ transfiguration?
First, we learn that Jesus is the Son of God. This means that we can safely believe His Word.
Secondly, in the transfiguration, Jesus showed us the brightness that He carries in Heaven.
He is full of light and there is no darkness in Him. He will guide us right to God.
Thirdly, people living in Heaven are alive and are not dead. They shine brightly like Angels, can ascend and descend to earth.
They can also appear in visions.
Jesus is transfigured bible verses
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him.
And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.”
And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.”
Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became dazzling white.
And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah,
who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him.
And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—not knowing what he said.
As he was saying these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”
And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.
