Jesus Heals The Lame Man At The Pool Of Bethedsa

Healed The Man At The Pool Of Bethesda

Today’s exciting bible story tells how Healed The Man At The Pool Of Bethesda. This miracle took place at a pool in Jerusalem.

The pool was called Bethesda which means “house of mercy” or “flowing water” (Blueletterbible.org, 2022). The Pool of Bethesda was near a sheep market and had five covered porches where people sheltered from the sun.

The Pool of Bethesda was a very special place because something very special took place during a certain season of the year. During that season, an Angel would come from Heaven and trouble the water.

Anyone who stepped into the water first was healed from any disease.

Because of this, many people with diseases would gather at the pool in order to be healed. They were either blind, lame or paralyzed.

visited the Pool Of Bethesda and saw a lame man

went up to Jerusalem to celebrate a Feast and visited the Pool of Bethesda. As He walked around, the Lord’s attention was caught by a man who had been waiting for thirty-eight years to be healed.

Jesus felt compassion for the man and asked:

“Do you want to be healed?”

The man replied:

“Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. Other people always manage to step in before me.”

Jesus told the lame man to take up his bed and walk

Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”

The man was instantly healed. He stood to his
feet and began to roll up his mat.

The Jewish leaders became angry because the man carried his mat on the Sabbath day

The man began to walk around with his mat. The Jewish leaders saw him and warned him not to carry his mat because it was the Sabbath day.

The replied that the man who had healed him had told him to pick up his mat and walk.

The leaders asked him to give the name of the man who had healed him. The healed man had no idea who it was because Jesus had slipped away into the crowd.

Jesus spoke to the healed man later in the day

Later Jesus found the healed man in the Temple and said to
him,

‘See, you are well. Stop sinning or something worse may
happen to you.’

The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well. The Jewish leaders began to persecute Jesus because He had healed the man on the Sabbath day.

In His defense, Jesus said to them,

My is always at His work to this very day, and I too
am working.’

This made the Jewish leaders even more determined to kill Jesus.
They were angry for two reasons. First, He had broken their Sabbath day law by allowing the man to carry his mat.

Secondly, He called God His own and made Himself
equal with God.
