In the beginning was The Word introduction

Today’s bible story tells us “In the beginning was The Word.”

By this time, many of you are wondering who is The WORD.

Let’s read the scriptures and see if we can discover the identity of The Word.

John 1: 1 – 18.

Jhn 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Jhn 1:2
He was in the beginning with God.

Jhn 1:3
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Jhn 1:4
In him was life,[fn] and the life was the light of men.

Jhn 1:5
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Jhn 1:6
There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.

Jhn 1:7
He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him.

Jhn 1:8
He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light.

Jhn 1:9
The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.

Jhn 1:10
He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him.

Jhn 1:11
He came to his own,[fn] and his own people[fn] did not receive him.

Jhn 1:12
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

Jhn 1:13
who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.

Jhn 1:14
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son[fn] from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Jhn 1:15
(John bore witness about him, and cried out, “This was he of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me ranks before me, because he was before me.’”)

Jhn 1:16
For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.[fn]

Jhn 1:17
For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Christ.

Jhn 1:18
No one has ever seen God; the only God,[fn] who is at the Father’s side,[fn] he has made him known.

When did the WORD first appear?

The Word of God first appeared in the Bible “in the beginning” (John 1: 1).

What is the meaning of the words “the beginning?”

The beginning of something is the time it started. This scripture refers to the beginning of the earth

Are there scriptures about the beginning of the earth?

Yes. These scriptures are found in Genesis 1: 1 – 3 which say:

Gen 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Gen 1:2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Gen 1:3
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Is the WORD a person or a thing?

The WORD is a person.

How do you know that the WORD is a person?

  1. John said that the WORD has names. His names are WORD and GOD.
  2. John referred to the WORD as He in John 1: 2.
  3. John said that the WORD made everything. He is the Creator – John 1: 3.
  4. John referred to the WORD as HIM. This is another word that speaks about a male person.

Who was with the Word in the beginning?
