has a bad dream

In Old has a bad dream, let’s find out what happened next in this exciting series. What will happen between and Farmer Brown’s son?

Granny Fox takes a nap is our previous story.

was dreaming. Yes,! She was dreaming! She lay curled up, fast asleep, and dreaming on the sunny little knoll on the edge of the Green Forest.

That sunny knoll or hill was a very pleasant and very comfortable place. Jolly, round, bright Mr. Sun poured down his warmest rays from the blue, blue sky.

When Old was tired, she would sneak over there for a short nap and sun-bath, even in winter. She was quite sure that no one knew anything about her secret.

Granny evaded Bowser the Hound

This morning Old Granny was unusually tired. She had been out hunting all night and was exhausted.

Before she could reach home, Bowser the Hound had found her tracks and started to follow them. Of course, Granny couldn’t have gone home at that time.

If she had, Bowser would have followed her and would have discovered where she lived. In order to mislead him, Granny had led Bowser far away from her home.

She had run across the Green Meadows, then through the Green Forest. She ended the race by playing one of her smart tricks and mixing her tracks to confuse Bowser. As a result, he could not follow them any longer.

Bowser the Hound had sniffed and snuffed his wonderful nose as he tried to find Granny ’s destination. Old Granny had evaded him! She had trotted straight to the sunny knoll where she curled up to rest and fell asleep.

Granny Fox slept with her ears wide open

Like most animals of the Green Forest and Green Meadows, Old Granny Fox sleeps with her ears wide open. Her ears are always open even if her eyes are closed.

Granny Fox’s ears are always on guard, even when she is asleep. If she hears the least sound, her eyes fly open and she is ready to run.

Granny Fox would not dare nap in the open daylight if her sharp ears did not keep guard. If you ever want to catch a Fox asleep, you must not make any noise, not even the teeniest, weeniest noise.

Granny Fox dreamt that she couldn’t fool Bowser the Hound

Old Granny Fox began to dream as soon as she had closed her eyes. At first, the dream was very pleasant dream and the most pleasant dream a Fox can have.

Granny Fox dreamt about a chicken dinner with all the chicken she could eat. She really certainly enjoyed that dream. It made her smack her lips because she felt as if the dream was real.

Soon the dream changed and became a bad dream. In the dream, Bowser the Hound had become very smart. Granny Fox had never known Bowser to be so smart.

She couldn’t fool him regardless of what she did. Not one of her many tricks fooled Bowser at all. Granny Fox dreamt that she couldn’t catch her breath because her tricks didn’t puzzle Bowser long enough.

Bowser kept getting nearer and nearer and nearer to Granny Fox in the dream. Finally, he was so close that it seemed as if his great voice was barking right at her very heels.

Granny Fox dreamt that she was so tired that she couldn’t run another step. It was a very, very real dream.

Sometimes dreams seem to be very real. This was true about Granny Fox’s dream. She could really feel Bowser’s breath and see his great jaws at her neck as he prepared to shake her.

Granny Fox woke up from the bad dream

“Oh! Oh!” cried Granny.

She woke up and her eyes flew open. Granny Fox gave a great sigh of relief as she realized that her terrible fright was only a bad dream. She was relieved that she was curled up on the familiar, sunny knoll and not running for her life.

Old Granny Fox smiled as she thought about the fright she had experienced in the dream. She still wasn’t sure if she was really awake or still dreaming!

Granny Fox was staring at Farmer Brown’s son

Granny Fox was confused for a full minute. Was it real or part of that dreadful dream?

You see, by then, she was staring into the face of Farmer Brown’s son and looking at the muzzle of his dreadful gun!

Granny Fox froze for just a few seconds. She couldn’t move. She was too frightened to move.

She knew then that what she saw was real and not a dream at all. She wasn’t in any doubt about that. She was looking at Farmer Brown’s son and his dreadful gun!

Suddenly Granny Fox knew Farmer Brown’s boy must have been hiding behind those pine boughs.

Poor Old Granny Fox! For once in her life, she had been caught napping. She felt that she didn’t have a shred of hope.

It would be the end of Granny Fox if only Farmer Brown’s boy fired that dreadful gun!

Is this the end of Granny Fox?
